Sant’Agatha Bolognese is a small village situated between Bologna and Modena and the home of the Lamborghini factory. Lamborghini was founded in 1963. by Ferruccio Lamborghini and its main competitor is the Ferrarri factory, as they also produce high speed sports cars. The first car that ever came out of the Lamborghini factory was the 350 GTV, which was introduced to the public that same year at the Turin Auto Show. Some of the models that followed were Islero, Espada, Miura, Jarama and the predecessor of the famous Diablo, the Countach.
In 1973. at the time of the first oil crisis, Ferruccio Lamborghini was forced to sell 51% of his company to a Swiss investor Georges Henri Rosetti, due to the financial difficulties. In 1974. the rest of the shares were sold to another Swiss investor Rene Leimer. But the Lamborghini troubles did not
stop there, as in 1978. due to mounting financial difficulties the company was forced to become a receivership and it stayed that way until 1980. when the bankruptcy was filed and the Lamborghini went into liquidation. The next Lamborghini owners were the French tycoons brothers Mimran who were in charge of the company until 1987. An all terrain study vehicle Cheetah and various Urraco models marked this period in Lamborghini history. The company continued to go from strength to strength, however the Mimran brothers were on the lookout for a capital investor and they found it in the United States, American car manufacturers Chrysler bought 100% of the shares. In 1990. the Countach, the most successful model of the car in the Lamborghini history, was replaced by the Diablo.
From 1994. until 1998. Lamborghini changed owners 3 times, beginning with Chrysler selling it to a subsidiary of the Indonesian Sedtco group Megatech. In 1995. it changed owners again and it was bought by 2 investors, 60% of the shares were owned by V’Power and 40% of the shares were owned by Mycom, an investment company from Malaysia. In 1998. Audi AG took over the complete shares stock and it remains so to the present day.
